A few basic steps of the grant writing process​

Volunteer West Virginia Grant Writing Workshop
This two-day Grant Writing training is intended to help build new capacity for nonprofit organizations. This intensive, hands-on training will help aspiring and experienced grant writers approach grant writing with increased confidence. At the end of the training, participants will understand all the components of a grant application and have a new way of looking at what works in their organization and community. 

The workshop will help participants:
  • Understand how to find grant opportunities.
  • Understand what funders are looking for in grant applications.
  • Use a Program Planning Framework to develop grant proposals that tell a coherent and compelling story.
  • Infuse their strengths into proposals to develop strong, competitive applications.

Glossary of commonly used grant terms​

Executive Order 12372, the "Intergovernmental Review of Federal Programs," is intended to promote intergovernmental partnership through the coordination and review of proposed Federal financial assistance and direct Federal development. The West Virginia Development Office, Community Development Division is the Single Point of Contact for the State of West Virginia. The provisions of Executive Order 12372 of July 14, 1982, appear at 47 FR 30959, 3 CFR, 1982 Comp., p. 197, unless otherwise noted. The White House Office of Management and Budget maintains the official policies and directory of State Single Points of Contact.

Uniform Guidance (2 C.F.R. Part 200): 2 C.F.R Part 200 establishes uniform administrative requirements, cost principles, and audit requirements for Federal awards to non-Federal entities.​​

The OMB Compliance Supplement (the Supplement) is issued annually by the Office of Management and Budget. The most current supplement was issued on May 2023​. This is used to test Single Audit compliance for entities that have fiscal year-ends of June 30, 2022, and after.

The System for Award Management (SAM) is a government-wide registry for vendors doing business with the Federal government, and SAM registration requires annual renewal. SAM centralizes information about grant recipients and also provides a central location for grant recipients to change organizational information.
